WebFeat Surpasses 120 Million Database Searches in 2007

Company on track to exceed 150 million database searches by year-end.

Old Brookville, NY, Sept. 27 , 2007WebFeat announced today that it has surpassed 120 million database searches this year for its clients – a new record. The company reported that it was on track to break the 150 million database search mark by year-end. Rapid growth in WebFeat’s market share has resulted in a 50% increase in the number of customer database searches executed in 2007 as compared with 2006. WebFeat presently serves 15,600 libraries worldwide through a combination of 18 statewide networks, 8 partners, and hundreds of independent library systems. WebFeat partners include EBSCO, Serials Solutions, TLC, VTLS, Inmagic, and EOS.

WebFeat’s rapid growth is largely attributed to advances in its WebFeat Express and WebFeat Enterprise Edition administration technology, dramatically reducing the time required to configure, launch and maintain federated search systems.

New features introduced in WebFeat Express and WebFeat Enterprise in 2007 have also contributed to WebFeat’s popularity. These include the industry’s first spell check integrated with federated search, as well as an integrated e-resources management tool, topic clustering, built in thesaurus, WebFeat Proxy™ for single sign-on authentication and Menu Manager™ web portal management capabilities. All of these new features build on the remarkable capabilities of the WebFeat Administration Console which enables easy, no-hassle configuration and management for WebFeat systems—including the ability to add/delete database, build subject categories, configure patron authentication as well as customize search and results interfaces.

Todd Miller, president of WebFeat commented, “Our goal in 2007 was to once again reinvent federated search by dramatically streamlining the process of building federated search systems. We’ve replaced brute force with technology, enabling our company to grow faster and giving more control to our clients.”
