Technology Showcase Features WebFeat Integration with AquaBrowser Library
Crowded ALA event unveils revolutionary search implementation at Queens Library
TLC, The Library Corporation, hosted a special event on Sunday, June 27th at the Chicago Hilton to showcase the integration of AquaBrowser Library with WebFeat's patented federated search technology. AquaBrowser Library is the first interactive, intelligent searching experience that broadens the scope of users' searches by visually mapping search alternatives. WebFeat gives AquaBrowser library users the power to search across all of their library's electronic resources with a single, intuitive search.
At the Sunday event WebFeat President Todd Miller, Jasper Kaizer, Director of Product Management for AquaBrowser/Medialab Solutions, and Jimmy Thomas, Director of Strategic Products, TLC, all demonstrated how AquaBrowser works in concert with WebFeat within the Queens Borough Public Library, one of the largest U.S. public libraries. WebFeat has been providing the federated search solution for Queens Library since May of 2003.
AquaBrowser Library-WebFeat demonstrations at the TLC exhibits booth were attended by standing room only crowds. The combination of the two technologies at Queens Library provides users with an unparalleled search experience that is at once robust and remarkably easy to use. |

WebFeat to facilitate researching by improving access to 400 electronic resources
After an extensive evaluation of federated search products, Princeton University Library has selected WebFeat to provide its federated search solution. WebFeat will facilitate student, faculty and patron researching by providing federated searching for 400 electronic databases and information sources. With WebFeat, researchers can simultaneously search the library’s vast electronic resources via a single, intuitive interface. Princeton University Library consists of the Harvey S. Firestone Memorial Library and 13 special libraries in locations around campus. Federated searching powered by WebFeat will be available to users at each location and can be accessed remotely by users with proper authentication. The WebFeat federated search system will be custom configured to Princeton University Library specifications and will be seamlessly embedded within the library website.
In addition to a custom federated search system, WebFeat will provide its SMART™ usage tracking technology to the Princeton University Library. SMART (Statistical Measures Available Real Time) will enable University librarians and administrators to generate detailed reports with key metrics for each database, including number of search requests, number of full record/next set requests, search terms/arguments, turnaways, location, and date/time information.
"We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with one of the world’s most distinguished research libraries,” commented Todd Miller, President of WebFeat.

Chicago is "Our Kind of Town"
WebFeat booth draws crowds at ALA
Hundreds of visitors stopped by the WebFeat booth at the ALA Annual Conference to learn more about the latest WebFeat products and features. WebFeat's booth displayed a "Chicago is Our Kind of Town" theme to thank our area clients Chicago Public Library, University of Illinois at Chicago and all of the 64 member libraries of the ILCSO consortia.
Many customers dropped by to say how pleased they were with their WebFeat systems. Visitors were treated to WebFeat tote bags as well as Garrett's famous popcorn--a legendary Chicago treat--that prompted several mouth-watering visitors to remark about WebFeat's great giveaways.
The WebFeat Sales and Client Services teams provided numerous hands-on demonstrations of WebFeat over the course of the five day session. And, many new clients were able to get a preview of their WebFeat systems to be released in the fall. |

Academic Library Event Celebrates WebFeat Clients' Diverse Systems
On June 26th at the Chicago Hilton, WebFeat hosted a special afternoon ice cream and dessert reception to honor its numerous Academic Library clients attending the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. The reception offered academic librarians an opportunity to see some of the unique and innovative user-interfaces implemented by other academic institutions.
Since all WebFeat systems are custom configured per library specifications, no two WebFeat systems are exactly alike. When not partaking in the desserts, librarians were able to visit computer workstations throughout the room to experience the federated search implementations of other academic institutions.
Among those in attendance were representatives from ARL members Brigham Young University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Oklahoma, University of Pittsburgh and Princeton University as well as staff from member libraries of ILCSO (Illinois Library Computer Systems Organization) and LOUIS: The Louisiana Library Network. |

University of Pittsburgh Library Upgrades Zoom! Search
Powered by WebFeat
Academic Library Launches Innovative Branding and Marketing Campaign to Promote Federated Searching of Electronic Resources
In June, the University of Pittsburgh Library upgraded its WebFeat federated search system to include the latest WebFeat 3 features and benefits. "Our first generation WebFeat system gave our users unprecedented ease of access to the myriad electronic resources we offer," commented Jeff Wisniewski, Web Services Librarian. "But, Webfeat 3 takes that one step further by giving our users powerful tools to manage their results, including the ability to merge and de-dupe results, and easier ways to mark, print, and export citations "
Since it first went live in August 2004, the University Library System's WebFeat tool was christened Zoom! The University contracted the services of a marketing and design firm to help it come up with the Zoom! branding. University librarians wanted to name the system in a way that captured the essence of what federated searching can do for users. The librarians thought that the slogan “Zoom!…any easier and it wouldn’t be research” said it all. WebFeat provides a custom user interface for the University Library System's search tool with the Zoom! branding seamlessly embedded within the Library's web pages. With the latest system upgrades, the University has once again invested in marketing its Zoom! system with fun promotional giveaways such as Zoom! branded mouse pads, pens, coffee mugs and T-shirts. These comprehensive marketing efforts, almost unheard of in academia, confirm the University Library's belief in the value of federated searching for its patrons.
"Ultimately, ease of use is as important to the user experience as the results themselves," added Wisniewski. "Our strength in acquiring and providing access to quality resources combined with WebFeat’s strength in providing easy-to-use-search tools and custom user-interfaces has enabled us give our users the best possible research experience."
